Shared Adventures receives Monterey Bay Sanctuary Foundation Award

Shared Adventures named ‘Sea Star’ by Monterey Bay Sanctuary Foundation

On October 5, 2024, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation’s Sea Stars Gala was hosted by Clint Eastwood and Christina Sandera at the Tehama Golf Club. It was a night of celebration, generosity, and inspiration, all in support of the sanctuary’s critical wildlife protection and education programs.

Guests enjoyed a gracious reception on the patio, taking in the breathtaking views of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary while mingling with Foundation trustees and VIPs, including Secretary Leon Panetta, US Congressperson Sam Farr, Mayor Fred Keeley, Vice Mayor Yvette Lopez Brooks, Assemblyperson Gail Pellerin, and Judge Syda Cogliati, A special guest was Rosie—the two-time world champion surfing dog!

After a tribute to the recently passed Christina Sandera, a premiere showing of the short film ‘We and the Sea’, a lively auction, and a delicious dinner, the impressive achievements of the 2024 Sea Star Awardees–individuals and organizations who have made lasting contributions to the sanctuary’s health and preservation–were recognized.

Shared Adventures, high-lighting the beloved Day on the Beach event, was honored as the Sea Star in the Business, Recreation & Tourism category. Each year, over 300 people with special needs, their families, friends, and 250 volunteers come together for a day filled with ocean recreation and entertainment. After celebrating the 30th year in 2024, Shared Adventures’ Day on the Beach program has been selected in the Business, Recreation & Tourism category due to its commitment to making the ocean accessible to all and providing the opportunity for those who might otherwise lack access to ocean interaction and connection to feel the power, inspiration, and “sanctuary” the marine sanctuary can provide.
